Teach Your Children

今、まとめている作品、それも１９６７年から２００５年までの、いわゆる若者たちの写真のタイトルをあれやこれやと思案していたら、７０年ごろの、フォークロックの名作、クロスビー、スティルス、ナッシュ、アンド、ヤングの「Teach Your Children」を思い出した。CSNYは、僕の大好きなバンドだった。カントリーロックとでもいうのだろうか、エレキギターではなく、アコスティクなサウンドのバンドだ。来日した二ール・ヤングのコンサートにもでかけたことがある。たぶん、アサヒカメラでその一部を紹介することになると思うが、タイトルをどうすればよいのか、なやんでいた。世代がテーマだったからだ。うちにはまだLPレコードが２００枚ぐらい残っている。ソニーの最終形のレコードプレーヤーもある。たしかDeJavuというアルバムだったと、探した。濃い紫色のジャケット、そこに古ぼけた西部開拓時代のような服をきた、彼ら。早速かけてみた。これだと思った。
ベトナム戦争、ヒッピー、ドラッグ、ロック。若者は大人を信じないと叫んだ。大人が作り上げた文化をなにからなにまで、否定した。そんな時代だった。そんなとき、この曲は、親と子、断絶した世代の、和解の曲として印象深かった。特別やさしい曲だった。
昔のレコードには、輸入版には歌詞カードがついていないものが多かったが、僕の持っているジャケットは、日本版だったが、歌詞カードがなかった。
その歌詞だが、ウエッブ上で調べることができた。
書いてある内容は、僕が望んでいるもだった。
ところが、CD版を買って驚いた。
歌詞が違うのだ。それも決定的な部分の。
日本語訳の間違いはよくあることだけれど、
英語の歌詞が違うのはどうしてだろう。
そして、なん回聞いても、やはり、以前聞いたことのある、歌詞が正しいように思える。
いったい、CD版の歌詞はなんなのだろう。
